South Dakota Pioneer Dies.

Mrs. Henry Bonnin, 65, great grand-
daughter of Chief War Eagle and
Charles Mix county clerk of courts for
two terms, died Tuesday of pneumonia
after a few days’ illness.

The funeral service was conducted
by the Rev. D. W. Clark, of Ft. Thomp-
son at the Episcopal Church at Green-
wood, S. D. Burial was in the Green-
wood Cemetery of the same church.

Mrs. Bonnin, nee Mercy Conger,
daughter of Cass Conger and Julia
Bruguier, grandadughter of the Lam -
ous Indian chief, was born March 30,
1871, at Sioux Point, Dakota terrictorv.
The Bruguiers were early Sioux City
settlers.

After attending the Santee Normal
Traning School at Santee, Nebraska,
Mrs. Bonnin took advanced work at
Hampton, Va., and then returned to
South Dakota to teach for 12 years in
the government school at Greenwood.

She was married to Henry Bonnin
October 19, 1890, at Greenwood, where
he held a government post and operat-
ed a retail store. After 12 years at

Greenwood they moved to Wheeler, S.
( D., where he was appointed clerk of the
^ courts and served two terms.

Then they moved w Wagner as early
residents, he serving as postmaster for
lour years while Mrs. Bonnin was his
assistant. Then she was elected clerk
of the courts for two terms.

Five years ago Mrs. Bonnin moved
to the family farm near here where she
helped care for her father and mother
who died about five and two years ago
respectively.

Survivors include her widower, Hen-
ry; two daughters, Mrs. Fern Shell and
Mrs. Nina Holm, both of San Diego;
two sons, Charles H. Bonnin of San
Diego and Conger Bonnin of Sioux
City; and three sisters, Mrs. Jennie
Cote of Wagner, Mrs. Alice Keeler of
Lower Brule, S. D., and Mrs. Sibyl
Bangall of Lake Andes, S. D.

and give thanks because of Him.
